Thompson (1916- ) was a writer and later editor of the University of Alabama student newspaper "The Crimson-White" from 1936-1941. He served with the Army Air Forces during World War II and participated in the D-Day landing at Utah Beach on the Normandy coast of France. After leaving the service he worked in Europe for United Press Associations from 1946 to 1952, when he returned to Montgomery, Alabama, to work in the family fertilizer business.
